We are a leading international supplier of high-performance plastic compounds and resins, which are used as raw materials in a variety of markets. Our product lines consist of engineered plastic compounds, color concentrates and additives that improve the appearance and performance of plastics in a number of specialized applications. We are seeking a Process Scale Up Engineer for our Product Technology Center (PTC) who will report to the Product and Applications Development Manager for our Engineered Plastics (EP) business unit. At our Product Technology Centers we formullate unique compounds for specific applications, then provide comprehensive analysis and testing in our laboratories. The ideal candidate must possess the skill sets of calculating Specific Energy, Volumetric Limitations, heat balance equations and residence time for reactive extrusion as well as extrapolate data from one compounding technology to another.
Responsibilities:
• Serve as a cross-functional leader for the compounding technology of EP
• Coordinate product development activities with the process group at PTC
• Translate for scale up all technology needed to launch a new product to the designated manufacturing site and conduct scale up with colleagues at various production sites
• Act as the continuous improvement agent for current products to guarantee quality performance and cost advantage in the industry and set design of experiments for continuous improvements for current products
• Coordinate all base line data (process, formulation and quality assurance) between EP development & manufacturing sites then update database as needed to ensure product movement between sites are seamless since responsible for all technical data related to compounding and ASI products lines
• Act as conduit for technical information transfer within the North America EP business unit, technical data exchange globally and conduct discussions with colleagues globally for continuous improvement & technical data sharing
• Establish protocol for the execution of product trials at PTC and serve as a support to the product team for qualification trials for new products
o Outline safety detail for new materials and handling of said materials
o Proper set of extruder constellation and feeder locations
o Review of recipe for proper feeder/ auger sizing
o Establish screw geometry or batch cycle
o Establish design of experiments to institute run parameters
o Review of scale up parameters for nominated site
• Set training programs for the process group at PTC and provide training to process crew at the various sites
• Budget authority for Preventive & Predictive Maintenance schedule for the banbury mixers
Requirements:
BS degree in Mechanical Polymer Engineering or related discipline such as Polymer Science or Chemical Engineering
10 years experience
